Around Kennedy Park
Kennedy Park is far removed from downtown Chicago, where apartments, condos and lofts reign supreme in the real estate market. Instead, you’ll find a slew of single-family homes in which owners have great pride. Therefore, homes for sale and homes that sit next to the one you’re considering will probably look great and exude the suburban vibes you seek.
For being so small, Kennedy Park has plenty of streets busy enough to attract restaurateurs to the area. We suggest starting on Western Avenue, which ironically makes up the neighborhood’s eastern border. Here, you’ll find an abundance of restaurants that serve cuisine ranging from Italian to pancakes to Mexican.
Kennedy Park is about as close to the suburbs as you can get while staying within Chicago’s 77 official neighborhoods. You can drive around and check out all of your neighbor’s well-manicured gardens and lawns. You will likely see families outside when the weather’s nice, heading to the park or simply playing on their own properties. No matter what, you’ll quickly realize that this area is all about family.
With all of this talk about Kennedy Park’s residential feel, you might be weary of its ability to present a fun Friday night; think again. You’ll be able to hit the town at a handful of neighborhood Irish pubs, most of which line Western Avenue. From here, you can travel to other parts of Morgan Park for a more varied and entertaining evening. You might even find live music and theater out here, too.
As we mentioned, Kennedy Park gets its name from a park that lies within its borders. This 18-acre park has been renovated over the years since the land was purchased in the 1930s. What once was a dump site and ball field has become so much more: the park features a spray pool, swimming pool, playground, and a quartet of baseball diamonds, as well as indoor multi-purpose rooms for year-round activities. Head here on a lazy Sunday to stay active and entertained.
