Northeast 45th Street is where some of the restaurants and shops are located, so residences in this area offer homeowners the most walkable lifestyle. Webster Point, which is at the very southern end of the neighborhood, features some of the most luxurious homes in the area. These single-family homes have access to private docks and spectacular views across Union Bay, the 520 floating Bridge, and Madison Park. Laurelhurst Beach Club offers membership to residents of this community where they can enjoy special events and classes throughout the year.
While there aren’t many restaurants located within Laurelhurst, there are plenty of dining options in nearby University Village and the University District. A neighborhood favorite is Sand Point Grill, which is known for great food and service within an inviting atmosphere. Another community staple is Varlamos Pizzeria, which has been around since 1994 and is known for its family-friendly Italian fare.
This hilly neighborhood offers residents stunning lake views as they drive through the streets. Residences along NE Laurelcrest Lane or 55th Avenue NE have some of the best unobstructed water views. Laurelhurst has a large collection of beautifully maintained Tudor-style homes, and as in most northern Seattle neighborhoods, there are an array of Craftsman-style homes, Cape Cods, and the occasional modern new build.
Kick-off the weekend with steakhouse dinner at Jak’s Grill, which has been a neighborhood favorite since 2003. Grab a beer at the award-winning Burke Gillman Brewing, known for its kid and dog-friendly setting while also offering a variety of brews on tap. See a show at The Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington. The elegant venue hosts a variety of acts from classical musicians to modern dance troupes.
For nature lovers, Laurelhurst sits along the famed Burke Gillman Trail, a 27-mile stretch of pathways perfect for hiking and biking. Pack a picnic and head to the Oliver Small Park for Fun Public Activities. This secret public beach is accessed via a pathway off East Laurelhurst Drive NE and 31st Avenue NE, between two swanky beachfront mansions.
Laurelhurst has a few public transit options and is somewhat bikeable. King County Bus Line 67 local heads to the University District from Laurelhurst. Once there, riders can transfer to a number of buses that serve the entire city. The Sound Transit Link Light Rail also services the area heading south to downtown then on to Sea-Tac Airport or southeast to Capitol Hill. The 75 Bus line goes north to Northgate, a popular Seattle shopping area. Laurelhurst is also a car-dependent neighborhood, so you won’t be within walking distance to any amenities.
