Around LeDroit Park

This neighborhood offers affordable housing on charming, quaint streets that are far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of the city (unless you live on Florida Avenue) while remaining very accessible to the city's offerings. There are mostly historic and some renovated houses in this neighborhood, although there aren't many residential buildings. While the neighborhood doesn't have much of a nightlife to speak of, it is good for professionals needing an easy commute or families looking for moderately sized homes.

Florida Avenue has some of the best, under-the-radar restaurants in the city, ranging from a creative take on Thai food to delicious pizza to upscale yet casual neighborhood gems with American fare. Some of the bars offer terrific brunch options and unusual dinner choices, great for taking out-of-town friends who want to catch up in a quieter atmosphere. Everything is pretty affordable and the cocktails are free flowing and tasty.

On the weekends, you can expect to see locals clamoring to get into their favorite brunch spots and soaking up the sun on the patio. During the week, you'll find families who have lived in this historic area for most of their lives strolling through the neighborhood, grabbing takeout or heading to a concert. You'll also see lots of Howard University students making their way to class or the library. During the summer, the extremely popular Banneker Community City will fill up with families and locals enjoying the outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Grab a cocktail at one of the many neighborhood pubs with decent happy hours and watch the hustle and bustle of traffic on Florida Avenue as D.C. residents get ready to start their weekend. Head over to dinner at a nicer restaurant--take your pick from Thai food, Italian, Czech, Ethiopian, or Mexican. People travel from all over D.C. to try these unusual spots. Head to Howard Theatre and enjoy the stunning architecture and beautiful interior while catching the latest musical or comedy act. If you're in the mood for dancing, you can find nightclubs along 7th Street and Florida Avenue. There's many a dive bar if you don't feel like ending the night quite yet.

Take a stroll through LeDroit Park with your dog and get some fresh air to start the day. Head to brunch at one of the local restaurants and take advantage of the large outdoor seating available in many Florida Avenue restaurants. Go for a run up 7th Street and enjoy the campus of Howard University. If you're in the mood for a group activity, grab your pals and head to Banneker Community Center for a friendly game of tennis. Afterwards, grab some frozen yogurt to replenish lost calories.
