I am currently overflown with homework and am becoming quite depressed as I can't keep up with anything anymore.

My daughter is a current student at DHS. They have appallingly bad support services for mental health issues, including bullying, depression and even suicidality. We have found the teachers to be lacking in compassion and the counseling office to be overworked and inattentive. Do not expect to hear from teachers, counselors, or administrators... you need to reach out multiple times to get a response. (Outside of Freshman year teachers who we found to be wonderful & empathetic). The changing of teachers mid year for upper level courses is chaotic and means teachers do not know their students and cannot be as supportive. In the current times of rising teen anxiety this is troubling. Despite informing teachers directly of my daughter's situation, which stemmed from in school bullying, the majority of her teachers were annoyed with her accommodation (extended hall pass to avoid bully) and reprimanded her in class daily threatening detention...making the situation worse until she felt she needed to skip that class altogether. At no point did any teacher or administrator become alarmed that a straight A student had begun failing their classes within a 2 month period of time. Even though they had been informed of the situation. When she went to the counseling office for support she was told she wasn't allowed to and to return to class. I find this extremely troubling and do not consider DHS to be a safe supportive environment. Unfortunately, I know of several other students struggling with their mental health issues at this school and none of them are being treated with compassion. The school is not looking out for your student, and sadly your student may not be safe in school. If you need help, you will need to advocate for it yourself and insist on accommodations. DHS is only equipped to handle a student with no special needs. If your student has anxiety or depression I consider this to be an unsafe place for them.

I absolutely hate this school. Ever since I came here I've been depressed as hell. The teachers don't care about you and they assign so much homework, I feel like I'm drowning in it. I thought that this school would be great with all of the nice reviews, but students never go out of their way to say hello and the teachers are terrible. I hate this school and basically everybody in it. If you care about your child's well-being do not send them to this school.
