Around Midtown

Midtown is known as a college town, but it’s home to people of all kinds. If you enjoy the lively college vibe, then Midtown may be perfect for you.  Midtown offers a variety of housing options, including condominiums, townhouses, and single-family homes.

When it comes to unique and exquisite foods, Midtown always delivers. From Cajun restaurants with spicy seafood and barbecue to the Midtown café, with its casual ambience and local produce, to southern-style dishes and outdoor seating, Midtown has something to meet the standards of even the pickiest palate.  You can try out authentic Tuscan cuisine, pizza parlors, slider dogs, steakhouses, hot chicken or one of the local bistros. Tex-Mex, vegetarian options, and made-from-scratch baked goods can all be found in Midtown. You can also try one of the local craft beers at one of the breweries in town.

Since Midtown is a college town, you're likely to see college students hustling to get class or students studying hard at one of the local cafes. You'll also see people jogging in the park or enjoying a performance at one of the local comedy clubs. In the evenings, you'll probably see friends chatting it up at one of the many nightclubs or bars in the area.

As a college town, Midtown boasts a wide array of entertainment for a fun Friday night. Vanderbilt campus hosts a Songwriter's Night where locals can come hear some excellent talent in an intimate setting. For the late-night wanderer, you can live it up at some of the local dance clubs with live music and cocktails 'til well after midnight.   There is never a shortage of live music in Midtown, with special festivals and other events sprinkled throughout the year. And of course, the restaurants are fabulous, with many staying open after 10pm for late-night cravings. You can also visit some of the phenomenal wineries and breweries in the area and try a blend you've never had before.

Sunday afternoon holds many treasures in its midst. You can visit the local favorite The Soda Parlor and enjoy a root beer float while playing one of your favorite classic arcade games for free. There are many local performing arts centers, story theaters, and improv/comedy clubs, where you can take music or voice lessons or see a show that tickles your funny bone. If you're into artwork, Midtown offers numerous art galleries and museums sprinkled throughout the area. There is a unique record shop and many bookstores that are always worth a gander too.   Although it may go without saying, a visit to Vanderbilt University will not disappoint. Founded in 1873, this university is home to amazing sculptures, beautifully tailored lawns and incredible architecture spread over its 333 acres. You can also visit the Sarratt Gallery on campus and enjoy a free showcase of the most interesting art in the area.
