Around Midway
Because of Midway-Coldstream's unique location, a Friday night in the neighborhood can be just about anything you want it to be. You're just a few short miles away from the Inner Harbor, which can be reached by either taxi or light rail if you're looking for alternative means of transportation. Just a few blocks away is The Charles, an art house theater specializing in independent films. To the north you also have Johns Hopkins University, which, as one would expect from living so close to a college, has a bar scene that is both fun and inviting.
The perfect Sunday in Midway-Coldstream usually involves getting outdoors and enjoying the best that Mother Nature has to offer - provided that it isn't snowing. If you're a sports fan, you could head to the north to check out the former site of Municipal Stadium, which is now the proud home to the YMCA of Central Maryland.
Much like many of the neighborhoods that surround it, most of the people who live in Midway-Coldstream live in row homes along Greenmount and North Avenue. While many of these homes are decades old, thanks to the current redevelopment efforts that are going on, there are several blocks of homes that were built within the last few years in an attempt to encourage people to move back into the area.
As one would expect from a city where the culinary scene is almost more important than anything else, Midway-Coldstream has plenty of terrific restaurants that are definitely worth exploring. Darker Than Blue (which offers a cafe-style experience), Pete's Grille (which offers upscale pub-style food), and nearby Waverly Grill are all places that you'll have to try at least once. If you really want a great tasting dish but don't want to bother spending time out for the full restaurant experience, you can also bring something home from Hummingbird Carryout.
The neighborhood is located very close to the courthouse on North Avenue, so during the week you can always spy a steady stream of men and women wearing business suits and carrying briefcases as they make their way from one case to another. There are also a handful of parks scattered throughout the neighborhood.
