Around Monte Vista
Monte Vista is a primarily residential area with neighborhoods made up of single-family homes. Known as a more affluent suburb of San Antonio, most of the homes here are historic and feature a variety of architectural trends. The homeowners association works hard to preserve the history and spirit of the area, so there isn't room for modernization or custom builds. On the outskirts of the neighborhoods are two universities, Trinity and San Antonio College.
If you're looking to eat right, you may have to venture outside of Monte Vista. Most of the food options are located around the schools and cater to people on the go looking for cheap eats. Main Avenue features some local favorites that are well-established and serve a variety of delicious American and Italian foods.
The community in Monte Vista is well-established and knows the area extremely well. Expect to see older residents or large families in Monte Vista. Area residents take pride in their properties and homes and the sense of community is quite strong. As you get closer to the university areas, it's not uncommon to see clusters of students gathered in cafes studying for finals or playing games with friends on campus.
On a Friday night, you may be hanging out with neighbors or enjoying any of the community events the associations put on throughout the year. There are a few wine bars and restaurants to enjoy, and the more active nightlife in Midtown is just around the corner. As Monte Vista does fall in the Midtown area of San Antonio, there are plenty of Friday night activities at hand from clubs to attractions. However, with a community as small as Monte Vista, you will have to travel a little outside of the area to get to the heart of Friday night fun.
Sunday will mostly be spent within the community as it's the perfect place for a lazy Sunday. The sprawling, beautiful Trinity University campus is a great place to take a picnic and people-watch, or check out the student art or performances. The campus also has a jogging trail that gives residents the chance to blow off some steam and enjoy a mid-day run or walk. There are plenty of local businesses that can make Sunday shopping a great day out. From local retail stores to interesting art shops, you'll find your next wardrobe addition or mantle decoration on the streets of Monte Vista.
