Around Montlake
Many single-family homes are located in this neighborhood and are considered expensive real estate. The northern half of the neighborhood is very attractive with easy access to Highway 520 as well as three local parks—Montlake Playfield, West Montlake Park, and McCurdy Park, which also features the Arboretum Loop Trail. Residents are also close to the Washington Park Arboretum, which offers additional greenspace, walking and biking trails, botanical gardens, and dog-friendly areas.
Although the neighborhood doesn’t have too many options, locals love the classic Burb’s Burgers food truck, which sets up shop on the northern side of the neighborhood off Highway 520 and near Roanoke Street. On the other end of the spectrum is Café Lago on 24th Avenue E, which has been serving Tuscan-inspired dishes for nearly 30 years. But if residents are looking for more culinary options, their best bet is to travel outside of the neighborhood to the University District where there are tons of options.
You’ll see well-maintained homes within a tranquil, waterfront and park-like setting. Considered by many to be one of most attractive and best places to live in Seattle, many of the homes feature views of the water or are located on manicured tree-lined streets. On a nice day, it is not uncommon to see many people walking and biking in the neighborhood. There is also a sailing yacht club nearby, so expect to see avid boaters and sailors in the community.
Nightlife options in Montlake are pretty limited. The best bet would be to head west toward I-5 to visit a few bars on Eastlake Avenue E or drive to the University District where you’ll find a variety of fun spots to enjoy beers, cocktails, pub fare, and games like pool, darts, shuffleboard, or ping pong.
If you’re looking to stay active outdoors, head over to the Montlake Bicycle shop on 24th Avenue E for a bike rental. Then ride through the Washington Park Arboretum trail and stop to view the seven botanical gardens along the way. You can also ride up north and spend time at West Montlake Park or East Montlake Park for scenic views.
For local trips, the neighborhood is very walkable and bikeable. Drivers will appreciate the easy access to Highway 520, so getting around town is a breeze. Residents taking the bus will find commuting somewhat limited but consistent traveling up and down 24th Avenue E.
