Streeterville

Chicago, Illinois

Overview

Home to some of the Downtown area's most iconic landmarks, Streeterville offers a quiet respite from the bustle of the Loop without compromising convenience or character. Luxury high-rise buildings, major destinations like Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, and Museum of Contemporary Art, make Streeterville one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city-- especially for those with an affinity for views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's characteristic skyline. While Streeterville certainly attracts its fair share of visitors, locals will still appreciate the neighborhood's proximity to the Loop and the abundance of accessible events and entertainment.

Where To Live

You really can't go wrong when picking an area of Streeterville to live in. Whether you live east, closer to the lake, or a bit west, closer to Michigan Avenue and the Magnificent Mile, everything you need is easily located within walking distance. Whether you are searching for a studio, loft, condo, or a penthouse, your options are plentiful. Almost all residential options are in high-rises, but you will find a handful of brownstones and smaller buildings. Most buildings offer luxury amenities. This goes beyond a pool or gym and could include a doorman, parking attendants, and an array of concierge services.

Price Vibes

While Streeterville is associated with pricey high-rise buildings, the surplus of real estate means you can find affordable housing—just be prepared to sacrifice square footage. With prices comparable to those in the Loop but with the benefit of little space between home and the office, Streeterville is an ideal option for those who place a high value on convenience.

Around Streeterville

Where To Eat

There is no shortage of dining options in Streeterville. Some of the hottest hotels and restaurants in the city are on the Magnificent Mile or in the neighboring River North and Gold Coast neighborhoods. While luxury dining is plentiful, there are many cafes, fast-food restaurants, and reasonably priced grab-and-go options to choose from.

Friday Night Fun

Check to see if the Museum of Contemporary Art or any of the nearby restaurants and hotels have special events going on. Don't forget The Signature Room, where you can enjoy a cocktail and amazing views from the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center. If you are in the mood for a show, head to the nearby Theater District to find opera, live theater, concerts, and off-Broadway or pre-Broadway shows. You can even head to one of the more casual options such as live jazz, bowling, or a movie.

The Perfect Sunday

Sunday is a great day to sit down at a cafe and unwind or to grab brunch with friends and catch up. If you like shopping, the Magnificent Mile offers some of the best shopping in the city. In the spring and summer, head over to the nearby lakefront to enjoy the beach. Navy Pier and its surrounding parks also make a great weekend destination, while the Riverwalk can offer a quiet respite from tourists.

Transportation Options

The Navy Pier Terminal serves as a transportation hub with buses running north, west, and south. The Grand Avenue bus will take you west towards any 'L' stop (the closest being the State/Grand Red Line stop) while buses also run express north/south along Lake Shore Drive. Avid cyclists have one of the city's most convenient trails at their fingertips—Lake Shore Trail—which will put them in the Loop or Lincoln Park in just minutes. Streeterville is also extremely walkable, with River North's restaurants waiting on the other side of Michigan Avenue and the center of the Loop just a quick jaunt across the river. Due to the high traffic volume along Michigan Avenue, rideshares can only pick you up along the east/west side streets.
