Around Northeast Dallas
The Village was the original huge apartment complex and it is just to the north of present-day Northeast Dallas. The newer versions of this singles community still appeal to singles, recent college grads and young professionals. Young families and singles love the older cottages along the tree-lined streets east of Greenville Ave. Look in Caruth Haven or Ridgewood Park for great deals on older homes on winding streets; many have small yards, tall trees, and great character.
There are plenty of neighborhood eateries and the chain restaurants are along major thoroughfares like Greenville Ave. There are pizza places and burger joints, neighborhood bars and late night lounges with music and entertainment, taco stands and sushi restaurants. There are also ethnic markets, natural food stores, large markets with deli sections, and gourmet food shops. There are bakeries and coffee shops by the scores. You won't go hungry any time of the day or night in Northeast Dallas.
In Northeast Dallas you can find families shopping or at play, joggers and cyclists on the streets, soccer games in progress in the parks, or neighborhood barbecues and block parties. This is also a great place to find weekend garage sales, crowded local eateries, and bustling small shops and service businesses.
Greenville Ave. is the heart of late night activity, but the strip east of Central Expressway has upscale boutique hotels, a popular arts theater, great restaurants and shopping centers that stay open late. Subsidiary hubs for shopping, gathering, and entertainment exist along LBJ Freeway, near Skillman and Abrams, and along Mockingbird Lane. Shopping in Dallas is a major pastime, so you're likely to find eateries full of people with shopping bags! Shopping for a quiet dinner at home after a busy week can also constitute Friday night fun, and the cheese and wine sections at upscale supermarkets in the area are a great way to meet neighbors. You'll also find families at local parks and playing fields; and there are pool halls and gaming parlors, skating rinks, and bowling alleys as well as "dressing up" destinations for music and fine dining.
Weekends in Northeast Dallas are for getting out of the house, and nearby White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum are favored destinations. Local residents can jog or ride bikes, fly kites, walk their dogs, lounge on grassy knolls, or sit by the water. A popular Farmers Market is a great weekend destination, and the Katy Trail winds through Northeast Dallas for marathon training or simply getting out to enjoy local scenery and the changing natural palette.
