Old Town

About Old Town

The Old Town neighborhood in San Diego was formally called El Presidio Real de San Diego, named after a historic fort dating back to 1769. Gaspar de Portola established the fort as a leader of the very first European land exploration in California. As the first of the Spanish missions in California, the area was the base of operations during the Spanish colonization of the state. Although the fort was abandoned in 1835, the original site is still present on Presidio Hill. The neighborhoods that developed around the area vary from upscale, historic architecture to more modern condominium buildings. Mission Hill is known for its extensive shopping malls, restaurants, and housing.

Old Town is a breathtaking neighborhood, being surrounded by undulating hills and dramatic natural scenery.
