Pleasant Valley Middle School has good teachers that care about the students. What I like is that parents are given access to check on their child's progress and, teachers are available, whether it is via email or telephone, to speak with the parent about their child. The school has a new principal and he seems very interested in communicating with parents. We have receive a few calls from him this year regarding some events in the school. I believe that the school goes a little overboard with the uniform code, but it can be forgiven when you know your child is being taught in a safe and sound atmosphere. This is my son's first year in Middle School; He and I discuss and go over his school work, which he has no problem understanding. He seems to like the school. His reading level is a little low and the school has provided a class to help him bring his reading level up (the principal called us regarding this also). Overall, I think the school to be a pretty good one.

I am a parent of three boys, two of which are now finished with PVSD and are in college. Thankfully they had a well rounded education in MD because the curriculum in this district is horrendous, as shown by testing scores. My children have never had a problem with the state testing because of the MD school background. There is entirely too much emphasis put on discipline and not enough on helping the children to succeed. The administration, especially in the middle school, needs a complete overhaul. The parent involvement is minimal, I feel I have absolutely no say in my child's education. Every parent teacher conference I attended was a complete waste of time. I left with more questions then answers. I was given 15 minutes with all teachers at the same time giving nothing but negative feedback and no opportunity to discuss ways of improving. My children get decent grades and are very polite and respectful to teachers and always have been. I have never had any experience like I have had since moving to PA. Hopefully the school will look into changing the way they provide education for their students, otherwise the district population will continue to whither.
