Strong in liberal arts, but weak in STEM. Use of technology is weak, but looks like there is potential to improve with new leadership changes and fund allocations. Declining/Flat enrollment, and relatively small number of students per grade (@170 or so in an average year) make this a good school for student extra-curricular opportunities. SAT, AP, and 4-year college matriculation have plenty of room for improvement. AP exam costs are paid for by the district. If state school are not in consideration for your student, then seek out Wyomissing or even WIlson. The class of 2013 was competitive at the top end at SV, but wait to see class performance on the whole. For a small district they do offer Chinese language instruction, but with nowhere near the rigor of their Spanish instruction. The School Board of Directors is weak, and in many ways the Employee/Employer lines are reversed. This may be a result of the previous leadership, and perhaps the new leadership will be managed properly.

What I love about SV is that it's a small school, everyone knows each other and it's easy to make friends with upperclassmen when you start. We have incredibly gifted teachers, most people don't realize that we are lucky to have the teachers we have. I love that our administration is not completely focused on test scores and data and being the best, which allows the students to be focused on things that they love. This, in turn, makes our test scores better anyway. I am currently a junior and I've loved SV since I moved here in third grade. I also enjoy our rivalry with Hamburg because everyone is in on it, even the teachers.
