My siblings and I all graduated from Highlands many years ago. I moved back to Highlands several years ago with my own family and have been very disappointed in the direction the district is going. The demographic of the students is disheartening. a majority of the population here is "low income/ at-risk" and the teachers spend a considerable amount of time dealing with behavioral issues. There are a handful of educators that are devoted to the welfare and education of the children, but the district is incredibly top heavy, and those at the top are unimpressive. There is poor communication between the schools and parents, in general, and my children report that their "bullying" policies are ineffective. The school board runs the district poorly, and finances are so badly handled that it recently came to light that the district is heavily in debt with little to no paperwork to explain it., and the brilliant idea to raise taxes (again). Allegheny County already has some of the highest property taxes in the state, so consider this as you look into schools in the area. Will you be getting what you pay for?

This place can't help its student to be successful. Teachers do not answer phones or return messages. I beg you to not let your kids go here or anywhere else in the Highlands school district.

i wouldnt recommended this school at all for anyone including for the fact its poor management for the troubled kids like me.. you get treated badly... the school dont meet up with the requirements for troubled kids.. i seen kids 10 times worse then as i have it.. getting screamed at things taking off of them by adults teachers aids.. and everything.. they get literally screamed at in the face... for them to stop doing what they're doing and some of them don't understand.. this school.. has drove me to a point where i dropped out because a teachers aide in the room followed me around hallways telling me to drop out itll make all the teachers feel better... how can you learn education when you have that?

Both of my children attended Highlands High School - both now have advanced degrees one in Neuroscience research and the other is an attorney. Both were accepted to outstanding colleges and post graduate universities too. They enjoyed their teachers, schools and friends. Teachers have their limits, it's what is reinforced at home that makes the difference. Seeing multiple economic and social environments prepares children for real life.
