Pittsburgh Phillips K-5

Pittsburgh Phillips is a superb public school (K-5) in the heart of one of the most eclectic neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. My family relocated to Pittsburgh (via Alaska and orginally from San Francisco) and I immediately fell in love with this school. The parental involvement was evident from the moment I stepped onto the campus and went to my first PTO meeting. The parents and teachers welcome you with open arms and there is a sense of community. I have particularly enjoyed my son's 3rd grade teacher, Ms. El Sabbagh. She has been the biggest advocate of my child and she ensured that he received the academic services that he needed to thrive. If you are a parent who enjoys the diversity of a good public school with excellent and committed parents and teachers, then this school is for you!

I love teaching at Phillips Elementary School! I am in my 14th year teaching 5th grade reading and language arts, and I can not imagine a better job. I feel supported by my colleagues, our principals, our community, and especially by our Principal, Mr. Boonstra. Not only have I been a part of the Phillips community for 14 years, my two children attended Phillips. They are currently in one of our wonderful Pittsburgh Public Schools in middle school and are thriving after having received a solid foundation at Pittsburgh Phillips. Currently, my niece attends Phillips in the first grade. I am always willing for perspective parents to email me or ask me questions about Phillips, or better yet, come visit our school and take a peek in my classroom! Phillips is a wonderful place to grow as a professional!

Phillips K-5 is like the hidden gem in PPS. We were lucky that it was already our feeder school, but many students attend from all over the city for its outstanding reputation as a Spanish magnet school. Its "neighborhood" friendly size, a diverse enrollment and amazing staff are just a few of the quality attributes. We are proud to call each other a "family" at Phillips, and it's obvious by the involvement and commitment of our families that continue to work and make Phillips a cut above the rest.

Phillips is a great school. They have caring staff and they are their to support my child. They offer a variety of enrichment activities for the children. I would recommend this school to sound anyone!!!
