For a middle school, Pennwood is a happy and safe place. My children had a good experience here. Academics are sound. The principal runs a tight ship, which has its good and bad aspects. I Extracurriculars are somewhat lacking, and I had no success trying to get the school to participate in an academic competition that was important to my child. Another Pennsbury middle school did participate.

Both my daughters spent 3 years at Pennwood Middle School. One is an average student and one is an IEP student. They both liked the team teaching approach, both found great support from the teaching staff, and both really learned and came away with improved skills and a good foundation for high school. As a parent, I found the school was very responsive and always willing to bring teachers together to talk to me about concerns.

Pennwood has surpassed my expectations. They do a fantastic job of supporting the kids in the transition from elementary to middle school. The team teaching approach creates an environment that is able to cater to multiple learning styles. I have an independent kid and a disorganized, dependent kid, and they both found their way and got the input and direction they needed. I was warned that my kids, who are neither high achievers nor low achievers, would get lost in the middle. But they both developed warm relationships with key teachers. My sixth grader is excited for 7th grade, and my high schooler stayed engaged and interested for all 3 years. And teachers and counselors have always been welcoming and responsive when I sought off-cycle feedback or had questions.
