Around Point West

In addition to the many different dining options at the Arden Fair Mall food court, which offers everything from fast food to pub grub to ethnic menus, there are dozens of restaurants in the area. Whether you're craving French, Italian, Chinese, contemporary American, global fusion, eclectic, or sushi, there is a dining experience perfectly suited for your palate. If you're more of a DIY type, you'll find fellow Sacramento foodies strolling through the fresh produce offerings at the Farmers Market at Country Club Plaza on Saturday mornings.

Proximity to Arden Fair Mall, Cal Expo, and the California State Fair brings a lot of crowds to the area. College students from nearby California State University Sacramento and tourists will be a common sight at the mall. Traffic can be a problem and parking is limited when events are going on. Many residents choose to walk or ride their bike instead. Pleasant evenings and weekends will bring many locals to one of the nearby parks to walk their dogs or to the American River for outdoor recreation.

While Point West doesn't have a wide variety of nightclubs in the neighborhood, it's just a few minutes from the hot nightclub scene in Midtown. Bars near 15th Street offer everything from dancing to karaoke. There are live music venues as well as performance spaces and comedy clubs. Dive bars, specialty craft beer pubs, and cocktail lounges abound. Closer to home, Cal Expo has something exciting going on every weekend, from live music and concerts to social events. Seasonal attractions, such as the Harvest Festival, the Hmong New Year Festival, and the annual Jingle Ball are always a fun way to get out and mingle with your neighbors.

If you love window shopping, you'll enjoy grabbing a cup of coffee and strolling through the Arden Fair Mall on a Sunday afternoon. Featuring approximately 165 tenants, the mall offers a diverse mix of restaurants and specialty shops as well as mid-to-high end retailers. During the warmer summer months, locals head over to Raging Waters at Cal Expo for a day of water sports and activities. If you're a history buff, head over to one of the city's many famous museums, like the Sacramento History Museum or Sutter's Fort Historic Park.

Exposition Boulevard, just north of the state fairgrounds, has a variety of condo and studio complexes ranging from late 1970s construction to more recent additions. Although there is a variety of homes, parking spaces are at a premium due to traffic overspill when the fair or Cal Expo are holding events. Farther north, above the Arden Fair Mall, you'll find more single-family residences intermixed with condos near the park off Cormorant Way and Ray Street. Walking a few blocks to the east, you'll discover fun outdoor activities at Howe Community Park.
