Around Rosewood
The great thing about Rosewood is that the homes are relatively affordable. The homes here are typically modestly sized single-family homes that sit on large lots, making this neighborhood much more desirable for people seeking community programs and green spaces rather than for people seeking a residential setting. While there is plenty of housing, finding an opening is difficult due to the location's popularity.
The food situation is pretty sparse in Rosewood although there are a few options along East 12th street, where residents can get sandwiches, pub food, and regional cuisine. Most residents head to the surrounding neighborhoods where everything you can think of is available. Fast food chains, vegan fare, American foods, and, of course, Austin's famous BBQ are all very close by in Rosewood.
Expect to see green spaces and a commitment by residents to give something back to the community. Directly in the center of the neighborhood are three very important establishments. The Millennium Youth Entertainment Center hosts numerous activities for area youth on the corner of Walnut and Rosewood Avenue. A block farther east on Rosewood Avenue is the Austin Can Academy, where neighbors and people all over Austin come to donate their old cars to help pay college tuition for the less fortunate. Just a little south on Thompson Street is the Boys and Girls Club of Austin. Rosewood also hosts a green space and a park.
Neighbors of Rosewood typically congregate in the park for relaxing with friends and family. Along East 12th Street are live music venues and a spattering of bars and restaurants. Most of the action centers around Austin's famous line of bars and pubs along Sixth Street where people looking for a night out on the town travel to for a good time.
Sundays are time to take the family over to Rosewood Neighborhood Park for a picnic and some family games. Boggy Creek Greenbelt sits at the southernmost point of Rosewood and is split in half by Boggy Creek itself. This is a great destination on Sundays for exploring nature in the big city.
