Where to Live
San Marco is renowned for its gorgeous homes. This area of Jacksonville is considered one of the best places to live and while some of the homes on St. Johns River can be quite pricey (exceeding $2 million), there are quite a few single-family homes found throughout, including those situated between Kings Avenue and Hendricks Avenue. Many of the homes were built throughout the 1940s and 1950s and have been completely remodeled, offering premium appliances, high-end tile floors, and much more. For those who prefer less property upkeep, there are also several condos within San Marco, primarily found just south of Southbank.
Where to Eat
Lots of restaurants are found throughout San Marco, especially along San Marco Boulevard, where the neighborhood's more popular establishments attract locals. There are casual chain restaurants, several cozy cafés, as well as trendy wine bars that serve tapas and brick-oven pizzas. San Marco has become such a dining hotspot that it has the nickname "Dinner District" and one night out proves that it's a well-deserved reputation.
What You'll See
Diversity is abundant throughout the San Marco area thanks to the neighborhood's variety of homes. You'll see all kinds of people walking around, exploring the art galleries, trendy clothing boutiques, and dining at one of many restaurants. Children will never be left bored and will find plenty to do, including going into the Peterbrooke Chocolatier store for a sample. It's also not uncommon to see people milling around the city as one of the many festivals take over, such as the Annual Tree Lighting or the Wine & Chocolate Run.
Friday Night Fun
The San Marco Theater dates back to 1938 and makes for a fun and unique date night. The new dining district also offers a variety of restaurants that offer innovative and exciting menus. Several hotspots are found within this area as well, including local breweries that are known for using local ingredients in their beers. Simply sitting and watching the sunset at Riverfront Park is definitely a great way to spend a Friday night. The Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex is also the place to go for a night of ice skating or to watch the kids' hockey game.
The Perfect Sunday
Brunch is a popular option in Riverfront Park, with quite a few restaurants offering exciting menus with brunch staples like stuffed French toast, build-your-own omelets, and fresh Bloody Mary bars. It's also fun to take a walk through San Marco Square, where there may be various festivals going on such as the art festival that happens every year. It's a chance to see sculptures, pottery, and what other vendors have to offer. Balis Park is also a great place to take the kids or browse around one of the bookstores where the children can gather around for story time.
