Around South End

The housing stock here consists of loft-style condos with a lot of natural light, luxury penthouses, townhouses, and rowhomes. New housing developments have increased exponentially with the arrival of the Lynx light rail.

South End is the spot for Southern fare; you'll find both no-frills fried chicken joints and eateries serving elevated southern classics and craft cocktails. Ever week, a hip crowd gathers for the Food Truck Fridays event that takes place outside one of the neighborhood's many breweries.

With all its hip amenities and active nightlife, South End attracts the younger crowd. It's the closest neighborhood to Bank of America Stadium -- the home of the Carolina Panthers -- that doesn't sit in uptown; on game days, expect the streets to be packed with Panthers fans looking to tailgate before the game.

South End offers a vibrant-- and walkable-- nightlife. Start the evening with a tour and tasting at one of the neighborhood's many breweries and distilleries. Then head to Food Truck Fridays or the monthly art gallery crawl. End the night at one of the neighborhood's bars, or hop on the Lynx for even more nightlife uptown.

During football season, Sundays are all about the Carolina Panthers; tailgate parties start up around mid-morning. For a quieter Sunday, head to the farmers market at Atherton Mill or scope out the neighborhood boutiques for interesting finds -- the neighborhood prides itself on lacking chain stores. Or take a walk or bike ride through the Rail Trail, the 4.5-mile park that runs along South End's light rail tracks.

Convenient, current, and fun

Nicole W
South End is a fantastic place young professionals and seasoned locals, alike. Over the past 5-7 years it’s really had a renaissance of new restaurants, bars, breweries and more. It’s a great area to walk around and take in the sights - whether you want to ride the light rail Uptown, grab a beer, or shop locally, it’s all right nearby. Prices for both residential and commercial have risen substantially, which, on one hand, is great for property values but can force many a business owner out due to super high rent. With close proximity to Uptown and charming Dilworth, South End is a great spot for anyone who craves convenience and entertainment.

Southend has evolved so much in the last ten years. What used to be a warehouse district has turned into upscale townhomes, condos, and rentals. The light rail adds to the convenience of getting to Uptown. Restaurants and bars are everywhere and Panther game days are awesome!
