This urban neighborhood features modern condos and apartment buildings, all within walking distance to local businesses and corporate offices. Dog owners might want to consider living on the south side near the dog park on Dexter Avenue. Those who appreciate getting their morning or afternoon runs might prefer the northern side near the lake. Residents working in the area might want to live in the center of the neighborhood. Also, residences located near Interstate 5 will have to endure noise and traffic.
Some of Seattle’s best restaurants are not located in the neighborhood itself, but are close by in Belltown. Still, South Lake Union does boast a few great local eateries that can be found on Terry Avenue and Thomas Street.
Beautiful sights everywhere from the runners running alongside the tree-lined streets and the seaplanes flying overhead to the city’s view of The Space Needle. While some of the city’s older buildings remain, this area is dotted with newer buildings giving everything a crisp, clean look. To the north of the neighborhood, you’ll find the Seattle Center where you’ll find a number of galleries, museums, and a park that hosts numerous artistic and sporting events every month.
South Lake Union likes to have fun. A great place to hang out is the mini golf-themed Flatstick Pub on Westlake Avenue, which is family-friendly during the day and open for adults-only in the evenings. Serving a number of local brews on tap and great pizza, this place features an indoor miniature golf course and other games that can be enjoyed on a rainy Friday night. If you’re seeking more late-nite entertainment, nearby Belltown has tons of bars, clubs, and lounges.
You can’t go wrong taking a stroll through Seattle Center. Stop to listen to the music and watch the water dance at the International Fountain. Take the family to the incredible “Artists at Play” playground or the Pacific Science Center. Stop for lunch at one of the many eateries found within the Armory or hop aboard the monorail leaving for downtown to do some window shopping.
Getting around the city is easy here. The neighborhood has many bike lanes and is very pedestrian-friendly. The neighborhood also has options like the South Lake Union Streetcar that loops around Fairview, Westlake, and Terry avenues and connects to other public transportation options such as Link Light Rail, Seattle Metro buses, and Community Transit buses.
