flat out awful. everyone from the main secretary in the front office (who is absolutely rude and does not want to be bothered for any reason) to the principal (been there 3 years and are on principal number 4), no one wants to be bothered with anything. in "their" opinion, they are overworked and underpaid. the football coach is a decent person. he relates to the boys and holds them accountable. he is probably the one person in the school that truly cares about the kids and it shows. he will help any of them no matter what is going on.. if he is able to do so, he will...

OUT OF STATE PARENT- Oliver Middle welcomed my 8th grader and I can't say enough about how happy I am to have chosen this school. I searched and searched and Oliver was on my top list of 3 schools to send my daughter to. Ms. Nelson, the 8th grade Counselor was a trooper the entire year! She gave us a tour a day before school began. She also worked with my daughter's schedule and suggested Virtual Classes within the school grounds so that she would not have to re-take classes she had already seen in Florida. The 8th grade team has wonderful, dedicated and loving teachers. I was scared of the new school, new city, new everything, but it all went away! My daughter made friends with some really amazing kids. Tell your kids to get involved! The school has awesome shows and activities. If you are moving into Nashville or into this school zone I think you will be quite pleased with the environment of this school, their focus on the arts, sports and activities. Due to my work schedule I was not able to be as active as I would have wished :-( I did however reached the Principal with a transportation incident and she was quick to respond and took matters into hands immediately. Great leadership. In regards to SSA one thing I did miss from Miami schools was our Jean Friday (every Friday of the school year and rolled back to Thursdays if there is no school on Friday). Oliver did have a few jean days through out the year and I loved the decision for students to be out of SSA the last week of school because it allowed them to be relaxed and express themselves in a world full of rules. Towards the end of the year the library crew (who are superb!) brought in a known author for students to meet and learn from. The year ended with such a beautiful Promotion Ceremony which once again proved why this school keeps rising... they are like family. A team working together towards a common goal; to train and inspire these students to the max so they can be ready to face the challenges ahead.

I cannot express how pleased I have been with the schools administration, teaching staff, and student peers. Our family was warmly welcomed and we were given tours and introduced to the staff and our son’s teachers. It made his first day at school. The students in his homeroom class are very diverse, accepting, and friendly. The education and academic programs exceed those offered in surrounding counties and most private schools. They key to extracting the most out of any large public school education is parental involvement, plugging your child into extracurricular programs that will reinforce character and provide healthy peers groups.
