Overall I have had 6 years with Kent with 2 kids. I was extremely excited at first because this school was highly rated. But I was soon disappointed. Kent is not a proficient when it comes to dealing with students who suffer from , lets say...test anxiety, ADD, ADHD, or really any Learning Disability. My 1st child suffered from a mild case of test anxiety and my 2nd child has a VERY MILD case of ADD. So mild that when I got him professionally tested the doctor said he didn't need meds. But his teacher thought otherwise. He was still put on a 504 which was a joke, this school experience with 504 was lacking. I have a privilege of being related to a elementary school principal, a teacher who specializes in kids with LD's, and I have several friends who are teachers. ALL of them were concerned when I would share with them my experience with this school. KENT puts a lot of focus on the STAAR test. Even offering a child a soda to drink so he/she could wake up for a test. (This story was told to me by a mom whos child informed her of the incident). This mom doesnt allow her kids to drink sodas. The 4th grade Geography HW is out of date and confusing. The was the teachers grade is inconsistent. An elementary teachers who tutored my child couldn't make since of how they grade. And this spanned across multiple years (2nd-5th). If there are a few bad apples in the bunch the entire class get punished. This school glorifies students who are naturally gifted at being smart or who are extremely well behaved and people pleasing. (one of my kids was on of those). But if you have a child who is overall a good kid but has a mind of their own, isnt a people pleaser, who doesn't care about getting all A'S or scoring points or earning buttons/dots/stickers then they tend to be forgotten and not acknowledged or you get called to a meeting because the teachers and principal are afraid he/she isn't ready for the STAAR test. God forbid! This school isn't a great fit for every kid. I had an "ok" experience with one child but a frustrating, and stressful experience with another. I will say there are a handful of wonderful teachers. But the majority of them are lacking.

I really hope this is not a sign of how this year is going to be, but we are a week and 1/2 into the school year, and my ADHD son has already 3 failing grades (0, 35, & 68). I was not notified beforehand, so imo this is VERY strict and ridiculous! I have notified the principle, in hopes that this will be resolved. My son has been there since Kinder and each year it varies good/not so good--all on each teacher. I believe lack of communication is very bad, and the kids are the ones who will suffer the most. If this changes, I will repost.
