While Lewisville has rapidly developed its own light industry and retail, it is best known in the area for the water activities on Lewisville Lake. The city has numerous parks and recreation facilities, including 14 miles of trails and bike paths. Lewisville Lake park covers more than 600 acres, and the area is especially known for its several world-class golf facilities.
Cost of Living
While it has seen substantial increases in home prices over the years, many homeowners still consider the area a good bargain. Its property taxes and cost of living are considerably lower than nearby Dallas and Fort Worth.
While the Interstate-35 corridor provided the primary transportation options until the late 20th century, Lewisville is now a member of the Denton County Transportation Authority. This relationship provides light rail through the A-train and access to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Authority. The DART system in turn allows residents to easily travel to Denton, downtown Dallas, and other destinations in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
The Lewisville Independent School District provides instruction for Pre-K through 12th grade, and the district has two high schools and four middle schools. The city also boasts of several private and charter schools.
Aside from its very popular lake and water activities, there is a major mall in Lewisville, and the MCL Grand Theater. This popular arts center hosts year-round shows, exhibits, and events. The city also provides a number of events during the year, including its very popular Western Days Festival, the Best Little Brewfest in Texas, and the annual Old Town Holiday Stroll and Christmas Parade.
Lewisville residents also have easy access to the many opportunities, events, and venues in Dallas and, with a short additional drive, Fort Worth. These multiple options allow those who live in Lewisville to enjoy the small town community feel that attracts may residents, without giving up any of the big city advantages.
