We just bought a house at Ranches East and was excited that we are in NISD. Our first year in NISD/Hughes Ele. This is a whole new ballpark for us especially coming from AISD. What really impressed the Principal greeted my child by his first name. You get the sense of belonging. I can also say that the teachers are very caring, respectful and nurturing towards their students and very professional towards parents. I am very impressed with their students safety policy. There is only one tiny little thing that the teachers can improve are their webpages. I feel that some teachers need to update their webpages and in that way busy parents can stay in touch of what's going day to day. My hats off for PTA. They are the back bone of the teachers. They have worked very hard from day one. It's not an easy task to orchestrate PTA events for the school. But the PTA Presidents and her team never fail to pull through and make everyone feel welcome. Other than that, overall, we are really very impressed with Hughes. We are happy to be part of Hughes family and very excited to see what is in store for us for coming years.

I am a Hughes staff member and love working at this school. I have worked in different districts and Northwest ISD is top notch. The staff loves the students and families. Our goal this year is to get more involved in the community and continue to have students read more. We have great kids on campus that are a joy to work with and the parents are supportive. The 2013-2014 PTA is amazing! They are working hard daily to make Hughes Elementary a great place to be involved. It really does feel like we are all one team working together to create a great future for our kids.

3 of my children have or are attending J. Lyndal Hughes Elementary, which primarily serves The Ranches / Lost Creek neighborhood, which consist of most younger middle class families. Most of the Staff, and Teacher's are really awesome. The school is well maintained and definitely focused on the students. Having had to temporarily relocate to a location in DISD I can tell you Hughes is in a whole different class compare to the DISD school. The only recent issue was the now 'former' PTA Staff who where extremely ineffective and caused a riff between the Administration and the PTA President. With all new leadership for 2013 hopes are much higher. We have many young families move to the neighborhood just so there kids can attend Hughes. My kids love it.

The departure of former principal resulted in many of the best teacher leaving this school. Nonetheless, the new principal is even better than the former one and many fine teachers stayed on. I expect this school will continue to excel. In addition to the principal, the art and music teachers are top-notch. My only real complaint is two of the 5th grade teachers (unfortunately my daughter had both of them). Ask local parents and they will tell you who to avoid.
