In many ways, Freedom is a good school. They approved an IEP for our son and worked with him to improve his reading. The teachers are also very good. The only problem I have is they do not allow backpacks. They can take them to school and then have to leave them in their lockers. So where does a boy put his books when he go to the restroom? Can't put them on the sinks because they are wet. So they put them on the floor. When I talked to school personnel about this, they said to have my son go to the bathroom during lunch time and he can put his books on the table before going to the bathroom. That would be fine if his lunch wasn't 5 hours after he ate breakfast. He had 12:45 lunch and the bus came at 7:20. Lord forbid if he has to go before that.

We have three kids and have been involved in this school for 4 years now. The teachers, counselors and Administration are just terrific. The music department is excellent and they are top notch in athletics too. Couldn't ask for a better middle school.

This school has the most awesome music department! Each grade has a Band, Orchestra, and Choir! In my son's 8th grade, the band had 8 trumpets! The Orchestra had 10 violins! The music teachers are phenomenal! They have had six years of superior ratings for the state assessments. The National Junior Honor Society volunteers at the Food Bank, and volunteers for the Relay for Life. The sponsors are devoted to fully rounded individuals participating in the NJHS. The academic teachers have been equally awesome. Ready to challenge your student, and make them want to succeed. I have had no problems with bullying. I have been impressed with the effort made to keep bullying behavior at bay.

I have child that goes to FMS and he is currently in the 8th grade and I have had problems with bullying since 7th grade. FMS has done a great job in handling the situations. An example: Here is what I did: I talked to my son and found out exactly how, when, where he was bullied on each ocassion. Told him to let his teachers and school know and gave the 3 days to work on a addressing the situation. And he did. Then, I went to the school and meet with the principal, counselors, and teachers. Told the school I have 0 tolerance for bullying and wanted to know the plan in how they were handling it. The school came back with results: The school talked to the other kid and parents ( this kid was a known bully) reprimanded the other kid and gave his suspension and told parents and kid about 0 tolerance for bullying @ school in which I was in agreeement with. As for the teachers and counselors, love them. They are great! My son had been having problems in his classes. The teachers got together with counseloer and did an intervention with him. The results is that they came up with a strategic plan to help get him back on course and it is working.
