The teachers at Matoaca are fair. But all homework is done on chromebook, and most in-class instruction as well. Expect your child to have a lot of screen time if they attend this school, way above recommended levels. The teachers will not work with you on trying to reduce that amount, and will not count work that is done on paper. They will also lure you with Tribe time and ASE, that we were told would be study/homework time for the students. This is not true at all, the students will be given projects and assignments to complete in those classes as well, and will still come home with 2hrs of homework average per night. I wish that I had just enrolled my son in his zone school and just had him placed in accelerated classes. Only one experience with bullying this year, but the staff's response was to tell all the kids involved that they needed to befriend the bully or they would be the ones in trouble for leaving someone out. Terrible handling of the situation.

I'm a Cbg 7th grade student at Matoaca Middle School, the year is 2011. Honestly i do not enjoy school, I have a few good teachers yet I have a few that are really just terrible. We have had our math teacher gone and replaced with a substitute for a while now, however our math teacher and the sub are both bad at math, and their jobs. I do enjoy the A.S.E. program that is offered to center based gifted students, this is a very beneficial program to me. At our school Center Based Gifted kids are often bullied, teased, abused for being smart and talented. Then there are PLENTY of cliques within our school. People can lie about it all day long but there are so many that this school is barely even close to what they call "unified". Our music programs are great. Our sports is a mixed bag, Basketball, NUMBER 1!, Soccer not so much. However I can't complain about the extra curricular activities because they are beneficial to students like myself. I can't say all of the CBG kids are qualified for cbg, students can clearly tell who is and who isn't, something the county may want to work on. I'm almost out of characters but cbg kids are bullied all the time, but the staff is blind to it all.
