Where To Live
To the west, master-planned communities offer a quiet lifestyle on the scenic outskirts of town, while to the east, residents are a bit closer to downtown. A few major roadways that include US-17 and I-526 run through West Ashley, meaning you’re never far from where you need to go. Citadel Mall and a hospital are both near the center of West Ashley.
West Ashley is both adorable and affordable. This area of Charleston is not only budget-friendly but also provides a unique opportunity to be near everything you could desire and still have a spacious home and yard.
Where To Eat
Some of Charleston’s best restaurants can be found in West Ashley along Savannah Highway and Ashley River Road. Early Bird Diner is one local favorite with comforting classics like chicken and waffles. For delicious BBQ, check out Home Team BBQ, or head to West Ashley Crab Shack for some of the best seafood that the city has to offer.
What You’ll See
Lots of families and professionals are in West Ashley, but the people here are as diverse as the homes you’ll see for sale. This was one of the Charleston area’s first true residential communities, and revivals of the 1950s-era homes are becoming increasingly common.
Friday Night Fun
While West Ashley isn’t particularly known for nightlife, this is no sleepy suburb. Go on a walking tour, hit the Citadel Mall for a casual night with the family, or head into town for any number of good live music venues, bars, and fine dining restaurants.
The Perfect Sunday
West Ashley has plenty of natural space to enjoy a Sunday outdoors. Magnolia Plantation & Gardens is the longest-running public garden in America and is one of the most beautiful. West Ashley Park is a great place to play sports or go fishing, but your pooch might prefer Bridgewater Dog Park.
Most residents of West Ashley get around by car. I-526 is easily accessible from the neighborhood. While some bus service is available in the area, public transit is not extensive.
