Hawthorne Elementary School

This school caters to the new Spanish students, the classes are too large and this creates chaos and makes it hard for students who require more one on one attention, it's also bad for kids who are more quiet and sensitive and don't like loud and crazy environments.

Great! We have really loved the convenience and family feel of this little school. We love the LAB concept and are glad for extra student teachers, no homework, and many opportunities for my boys to be active. This is a good boy mom school. And as a mom who wants to give their kids a neighborhood experience, this is a good fit. The teachers know the personalities of my kids and coach them to do their best. They are all growing academically. The leadership is responsive and passionate about Hawthorne.

Very similar experience to another parent review below. My son was at Hawthorne from K - 5 and walked away without understanding the need for finishing assignments or the consequences that should come from not doing so. With no grades and a simple Proficient vs. Non-Proficient approach, as long as he could demonstrate the he understood something, he didn't have to do any real work. This is completely back-firing in Middle School - we left the district and I'm so glad my daughter won't run into these issues. I wish I had left sooner. I understand the need for the STEM subjects, but the approach is flawed and/or the teachers implementing it were not equipped to do so properly.

The new principal has done a wonderful job transforming this school. The teachers are great and seem to genuinely care about their students. The individualized learning works well for my children.
