Around Woodstock
Small parks are scattered throughout the neighborhood, but more concentrated on the eastern side. This side of Woodstock is also home to Prospect Avenue, where trains are conveniently located. Much of the neighborhood is residential, without a clear delineation of sections within Woodstock at large. There are a number of schools in the neighborhood, which can offer convenience. Homes situated close to Bruckner Expressway will most likely get more noise than other parts of the neighborhood.
Woodstock offers a variety of restaurants featuring diverse cuisines, some of which can be found on Southern Boulevard, 3rd Avenue, and Prospect Avenue. Here, you’ll find options like delicious Puerto Rican food in an understated environment. Longwood Avenue cuts across Woodstock and is also home to fast food options, like pizza or Mexican food.
There’s a real variety of offerings when it comes to making a home in Woodstock. Brownstones sit next to new developments, which sit next to prewar buildings. One of Andrew Carnegie’s original libraries sits as an NYC landmark building in the neighborhood. Recent development in Woodstock has led to a larger number of small businesses cropping up. Proximity to Yankee Stadium can be counted as a plus for those interested in baseball, but also has yielded great economic growth for those less interested in the sport.
Woodstock doesn’t offer much in the space of nightlife, but just 20 minutes on the 2 train changes everything. Travel into nearby Harlem for a night of excellent food, music, and dancing. Try The Honeywell for dinner once you make it to Harlem. From there, go to Bill’s Place for some jazz. Stop back at Red Rooster before hopping on the train home for another round and some dancing.
Take Sunday to indulge in the best of the Bronx. If seeing a game at Yankee Stadium is in season, take the 30-minute walk through Joyce Kilmer Park. Come hungry, considering the stadium’s recent efforts to cater to almost every dietary need or interest. If you’re in the mood for something a little more mellow, try taking the Bx17 up to The New York Botanical Garden and spend the day lost in natural beauty.
A mere 20-minute drive to LaGuardia International Airport and only 30 minutes from Penn Station, Woodstock is more centrally located than most people realize. The 2, 5, and 6 trains service the area quite consistently. Buses run locally, but with little consistency. Thankfully, Woodstock is only about a 30 minute-walk across, making running errands on foot easy and without relying on public transportation.
