CHECK OUT MORE FROM OUR '7 DAYS OF SUBURBS' WEEK

Moving to a new city comes with lots of decisions, but the most important one is deciding where to live. When your new city is Phoenix, you’ve got lots of options. Chances are that you’ll be traveling to and from the downtown city center. Almost 65,000 people work there each day, so you’ll want to make it as easy on yourself as possible. Phoenix has a thriving central downtown neighborhood with a huge public transportation infrastructure and lots of affordable living solutions. Breweries, shopping centers, markets, and art galleries complement the modern amenities found in most newly constructed building. But what if city living just isn’t for you?

The highway traffic in Phoenix is legendary and your best bet to manage the headache is to do your research. If you’ve decided to move because you have a job lined up, then you’re in luck. You get to pick the part of town that works best for your new commute. But if you’re already a Phoenix resident and just looking to make a change, it’s best to do your due diligence and give the new travel route a practice run before you make any permanent choices.

Here are our picks for the six Phoenix suburbs with easy commutes.

It’s no surprise that this suburb tops the list. The past ten years have been very kind to this former farming town. New homes, businesses, shopping centers, and community buildings have taken over what used to be a one-stoplight village. There’s plenty to enjoy at home too, like the Wildlife World Zoo, top-notch hiking, and a newly built baseball stadium.

A quick 30-minute drive from the city leads you to the tree-lined streets of this very desirable Phoenix suburb. The cornerstone of Arcadia is its perfect view of Camelback Mountain, which is visible from downtown. The shopping here is second to none and the dining choices are endless. Though home prices are well above the national average, the excellent schools and culture of community involvement make this a desirable place to live.

Gilbert, AZ

Residents enjoy the tight-knit community and all of the amenities it has to offer, like public pools and libraries. Gilbert also has a bustling food scene and has had more than 30 restaurants. Noted as one of the best spots to buy your first home, this Arizona town is a great place to put down roots.
