Thinking about moving to the Sacramento area? Rio Linda

The city of Rio Linda is well known for being home to the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail and the Roy Hayer Memorial Race Track. It’s also known for being a place where you get some of the best cheesesteaks in the state (who knew?). Watch for the wild chickens known to roam the neighborhoods here. Plus, with a median home price around $179,300, Rio Linda’s price tag speaks for itself. 

Elverta

If you’re looking for a small community where you’ll get the chance to know your neighbors, Elverta could be it. The median home price is $174,100, so it's also easy to get a home in this 5,000-person town. Like to spend time outdoors? Practice your swing at the Cherry Island Golf Course and get in your cardio at Gibson Ranch Park.

Rancho Cordova

The motto of Rancho Cordova is “City Life Reinvented.” You can enjoy the excitement that comes with living in a busy urban area without having to pay city prices. In fact, the cost of living in Rancho Cordova is 20 points lower than the state average and the median home price is the eighth lowest in the area ($191,300). There’s also plenty to do in the city, from entertainment to outdoor activities. Many residents enjoying kayaking on Lake Natoma, biking at Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, and shopping at Zinfandel Plaza.

Citrus Heights

You could live in an urban neighborhood with a small-town feel or you could just go live in a small town where you can stretch your dollar even further. Nestled in the Sacramento suburbs, Citrus Heights is the fifth-largest city in the county but still maintains those rural roots. You’ll find lots of retail opportunities here, chief among them Sunrise Mall, which features over 100 stores. The median home price of $190,200 is less than half of the California median home price.

Rosemont

For homebuyers looking to put down roots, Rosemont just might be the area you’ve been looking for. There are plenty of parks surrounding the neighborhood, including Larchmont Community Park and Rosemont North Park. Children will have access to well-regarded public schools, including Pleasant Grove High School and Katherine L. Albiani Middle School. And thanks to its median home price of $185,300, it’s not too hard to find something affordable. 

North Highlands

The second-most affordable area in the Sacramento region, North Highlands has a median home price of $143,300. It should be noted that the neighborhood’s proximity to the Sacramento International Airport likely plays a role in the price. For frequent travelers, though, the location could be ideal. On weekends, check out the Aerospace Museum of California, an aviation museum on the site of the former McClellan Air Force Base.
