The southern tip of Florida is the United State's warmest location during traditional winter months. From December through February, the temperatures reach the 80s approximately 40% of the time. With so much warm weather, it’s no wonder that the beach is a major part of life in Miami. Here are some of the most exceptional beach-side communities in and around Miami Beach.

South Pointe Park Pier

In the South Beach section of Miami Beach is a phenomenal 17-acre park - South Pointe Park Pier. The park’s history began in 1979 when the government donated 17 acres to Miami Beach.

South Pointe Park has picnic areas, playgrounds, and beaches. The park features an observation deck, play areas, restrooms, and outdoor showers. Film crews love this heavenly spot and use it quite often. The park provides doggie waste stations strategically located throughout.

From October 15 through May 15, Florida Stone Crab claws are said to be “in season.” In fact, it is fairly commonplace to find locals munching on claws from nearby Joe’s Takeaway

Haulover Beach is considered one of the Miami Beach's most picturesque expanses. Haulover Beach is especially renowned for its clothing-optional beach, wherevisitors have to abide by a distinctive list of do’s and don’ts (including no photos being allowed). Often voted one of the top nude beaches in the world, Haulover Beach stretches for 117 acres and offers a beautiful environment in the Miami area.

Sunny Isles Beach

Near Haulover Beach is the famous Sunny Isles Beach. The two-mile beach offers public beaches, souvenir shops, and boutique hotels. This area was once a favorite among tourists, but recently Sunny Isles has begun to modify its outdated reputation. Its revitalization can be traced back to a recent boom in luxury beach-side condos.

These days, Sunny Isles Beach looks more like a condo canyon commonly found in mid-Miami Beach than the laidback beach community it was after World War II.

Bal Harbour

Bal Harbour encompasses an area of approximately a half mile and is located on the northernmost part of the barrier island, extending 174 miles southward to Key West. This area publicizes (or maybe celebrates) its sophisticated image within the pages of, Bal Harbour. This area is also famous for their legendary, but pricey, shopping. Some of the most expensive stores line the streets of Bal Harbour.

Surfside

Incorporated in 1935, Surfside is Miami Beach's next door neighbor. Surfside’s ambiance preserves the lasting appeal of Art Deco architecture.

When lounging in Surfside, check out First Fridays, a community event held during the summer months. Everyone gathers at the 93rd Street beach from 4-7 PM with tasty eats and the latest beach gear.

After your beach excursion, venture out for some yummy eats at the venerated Josh’s Deli, a Jewish-style eatery. At Josh’s, traditional Jewish fare is ingeniously morphed into newly revamped classics like ‘Duck-Fat Matzo Balls’ and ‘Crunchy Tuna Latkes.’
