Although one of the smaller cities in the Bay Area, Concord has let the commercial world know it is large enough to accommodate even the largest corporation’s campus.

Amazon recently announced a desire to plant a second headquarters in the U.S. The question is not when, but where — as the retail company has given cities 30 days to submit proposals. Per SF CBS, Concord will be one of those cities.

Concord is not the first Bay Area city to express interest, as Oakland and San Jose have also said they are ready to welcome the retail giant, making it a tough sell by comparison.

However, the Contra Costa County city has been chipping away at a 5,000-acre development that might make for a perfect landing spot. While ongoing plans have been to turn the old Naval Weapons Station into six million square feet of office space, 12,000 housing units and a massive commercial campus, it might also be an ideal spot for Amazon to call home (well, second-home).

With the Oakland International Airport 45 minutes away, two freeways nearby, and the North Concord BART station right next door, city officials say the project was meant to be.

There is a question regarding the city’s funds and whether the state would have to help with any costs. Despite that, city officials are happy to move ahead in a bid for such a large project. Even if they don’t get land Amazon, it a signal to other big companies that Concord is ready to welcome them to the community.
