How much do you know about the coastal city of Coronado? If you’ve only taken a glance at it from a distance across the Bay, you’re truly missing out on an incredible experience. Coronado has a high-end beach culture with multiple resorts and yacht marinas. It’s also home to the iconic Hotel Del Coronado. Coronado has a population of just under 25,000 and provides a small-town vibe with big-city appeal. Besides lounging on the white sandy beaches, boating, biking, and sailing are some of the top recreational activities that locals enjoy.

Coronado features several distinct neighborhoods that offer a variety of amenities, homes, recreation, and entertainment options. Here we’ll take a closer look at the neighborhoods that make up the island of Coronado.

Coronado Beach

Bay Front

If you’re looking for a waterfront lifestyle, Bay Front may be the neighborhood for you. Located on the east side of the island, it is home to Tidelands Park and the Ferry Landing Marketplace. This neighborhood gives you a clear view of Downtown San Diego, and offers homebuyers waterfront condos. The Coronado Sharp Hospital is also located within this neighborhood.

Coronado Cays

Coronado Cays is Coronado’s marina community. Running along the eastern side of the Silver Strand, Coronado Cays is made up of 10 sub-neighborhoods, full of beachfront condos, modern townhomes, and upscale homes. As a gated community, this neighborhood is tranquil and has constant patrol. Residents also have access to the Pacific Ocean, a special perk if you own a boat. Housing is spacious here, though there’s limited dock access.

Coronado Shores

South of the Hotel Del Coronado and just several feet away from the beach, you’ll find Coronado Shores. Comprised of ten 15-story towers, these condo units offer scenic bay and city views along with year-round resort living. Coronado Shores provides residents with resort-style amenities like four swimming pools and spas, multiple tennis courts, a private beach club, and fitness center as well as a 24-hour doorman. Residents are also within walking or biking distance of plenty of shopping and dining in the area.

Country Club Estates

Country Club Estates offers a variety of architectural designs, many of which are in the popular L-shape. Many of the homes were built in the 1950s and 1960s as single-level homes along tree-lined streets, but have since been renovated to feature modern two-story designs. Located on the northwest side, it’s the smallest neighborhood on the island (and one of the most private and quiet). Country Club Estates is also just minutes away from Coronado Beach.

Ocean Front

Living in Ocean Front means you’ll be just three blocks away from the beautiful Coronado Beach as well as views of the Pacific Ocean and Point Loma to the north. A quarter of a square mile in area, this small-sized neighborhood makes it easy to get to know your neighbors. Ocean Front is a historic community with homes dating back to the 1800s designed with architectural styles like Colonial, Victorian, and English Tudor. But you’ll also find newer homes with Mediterranean, Spanish, or Nantucket exterior designs.

Village Core

Village Core is the largest neighborhood with a thriving business hub. Ideally situated along Coronado’s major route, Orange Avenue, residents are never far from daily shopping, dining, and other conveniences. The neighborhood’s prime location allows homeowners to have easy access to the beaches, schools, and attractions in the area. Homes in this neighborhood feature distinct architectural styles such as Craftsman, Georgian, and Victorian as well as a few contemporary and custom designs.
