Everyone has different criteria defining the perfect place to live. But for many people, especially families with children, safety rates high on the list. According to the Cross Timbers Gazette, the town of Flower Mound rated the safest municipality in Texas.

The small town of Flower Mound, which is located in both Denton and Tarrant County, regularly ranks well for quality of life. According to another piece in the Cross Timbers Gazette, Flower Mound was named one of the top five cities in the country for raising kids.

Flower Mound had excellent crime and safety ratings in a study by SAFEHOME, a research organization that studies home security. Criteria included FBI crime data, police-to-citizen ratio, and total population. SAFEHOME rated Flower Mound the safest city of more than 50,000 residents in Texas.

Allen and Mansfield also appeared in the top five on SAFEHOME’s list.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security recently published a list of the 100 best cities in the country for raising a family. Flower Mound came in at number five in the rankings, well above the other five Texas cities on the list.

The study ranked 500 U.S. cities in total before narrowing the list down to 100. Their criteria included median income, graduation rates, crime rates, and health insurance coverage.

The council particularly praised Flower Mound for its approach to managing growth. Flower Mound city planners seek to maintain a balance of residential space, business zones, parks, and public facilities.

Eleven of the top 20 cities were in California. The only other North Texas cities to rank in the top 100 were Frisco at number 68, and Allen at number 79.
