San Francisco's need for high-gear speed has given birth to an array of bike share programs throughout the city. Social Bicycles (SoBi) and Ford GoBike’s recent rollout have both occurred — and increased in locations — in the last few months. Not everyone is a fan, however.

Per Curbed SF, residents in the Mission District are not very welcoming to the new bike stations arrivals. When announced, Ford GoBike expansion plans not only called for new bike racks but also the repurposing of old bike racks as well as the takeover of street parking to make room for bike dock space.

Locals seem most concerned about who the bike share service is actually catering to in their area. Per SF Examiner, the neighborhood group Calle 24 told Ford GoBike “no” when asked to place a bike dock on 24th Street. Erick Arguello, founder of the group, said his concern was that bike share companies are catering to newcomers instead of longtime Latino residents.

This is not the only group with concerns on the lack of inclusivity from the bike share company. In an opinion article featured in the Daily Californian, the author pointed out that Ford has yet to announce any bike docking stations in East Oakland.

Here is a map from Ford showing where stations currently are and where they are planned to go in the near future. Time will tell whether or not the bike share program finds success in the Bay Area and is able to do so inclusively.
