According to a story in CBSDFW, a “pay what you can” restaurant that ensures no hungry person will have to go without recently opened in Fort Worth.

Taste Community Kitchen is located at 1200 S. Main St. in Downtown Fort Worth. It is staffed by 100 volunteers. The restaurant serves a variety of delicious dishes, from burgers to risotto. They also serve beverages, appetizers, desserts, and even kids’ meals.

Guests order from a menu and are presented with a bill, which is blank. They can choose how much to pay for the meal, as no prices are listed.

Although there are no prices on the menu, there is a call for more volunteers. Chef Jeff Williams hopes that those who receive a meal will be inclined to give back.

The point of the restaurant is to protect the dignity of people who need a meal. Many people may be too embarrassed to visit a soup kitchen. A “pay what you want” price structure means that hungry people can still get a hearty meal.

The chef hopes that the concept will catch on and that he will be able to open other similarly structured restaurants.
