Haltom City is an older, first-ring suburb of Fort Worth. Previously overlooked in favor of more popular suburbs in Northeast Tarrant County, Haltom City is seeing the first signs of a comeback. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the city is getting a number of new developments.

City officials cite the construction of the Loop 820 toll road, also known as the North Tarrant Express, for the resurgence in development. Some of the new projects in the works for the city of 44,000 people include a subdivision, two hotels, a luxury apartment complex, and restaurants.

The city plans a mixed-use development on 43 acres of city-owned land, which will serve as a town center. The town center will include a community events plaza, restaurants, retail, entertainment, and housing.

Another major project in development is the renovation of the historic Haltom Theater. A new marquee sign at the site is prominently visible at the intersection of Haltom Road and the North Tarrant Express.

The Haltom Theater redevelopment is the centerpiece of upgrades the city is making, including landscaping and improvements to water and sewer lines, traffic signals, and storm drains. The city also built a new road and widened Northern Cross Boulevard to attract additional development.

High Pointe is a new housing development just north of Loop 820 and east of Haltom Road. It will eventually include 225 homes, ranging in price from $275,000 to $390,000. The developer, Stephen Barnes, is also building 960 luxury apartments.

Many people are taking a renewed look at the city, seeing potential in its excellent location and access to major highways, including U.S. 377 and Texas 121.
