Coworking spaces are creative solutions for a variety of workers, from freelancers to small businesses. But these shared work spaces are usually found only in big cities. But according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the fast-growing suburb of Mansfield is getting its first coworking space.

The coworking facility will be called Main Space and will be in a historic clinic at 315 S. Main St. The 3,500-square-foot duplex formerly housed the 1950s era offices of Dr. Percy Cook.

Dr. Cook was one of the most prominent longtime residents of Mansfield. He moved to the area in 1951 when the town only had 800 people. Today, more than 56,000 make their home in the growing suburb of Arlington. Along with five other businessmen, Dr. Cook bought 200 acres that became Mansfield Business Park.

Dr. Cook’s offices remained largely unchanged, although it was previously the site of McKenzie’s String Shop. The decor still reflects the 1950s, with wood paneling on the walls, blue carpet that looks like ocean waves, and an avocado-colored couch. But when Jessica Rychlik bought the building in July, she immediately saw its potential.

Half the building will be used for Rychlik’s real estate company, Seven6 Realty. The other half will be used for Main Space and will provide office space for freelancers and entrepreneurs. Main Space will have four separate offices available for rent. It will also feature office space for workers who work at home to have a quiet office outside the home. Main Space will also feature a bar and dining room table for collaboration and meetings.

Rychlik hopes to open Main Space by November 2017.

The project is part of a revitalization process for downtown Mansfield.
