Homeowners Live Large in Austin, According to Data
It seems that everything is bigger in Texas, especially in Austin.
Analyzing U.S. Census Bureau data, the site CultureMap found that 6.6 percent of homes in the Texas capital sit on at least five acres. Among the four major metro areas in Texas, that’s the largest concentration of big-lot homes.
In San Antonio, 5.9 percent of single-family homes sit on at least 5 acres; in Dallas-Fort Worth, it’s 2.5 percent; and in Houston, it’s 2.1 percent.
CultureMap pulled from Census Bureau’s 2013 American Housing Survey (Austin and San Antonio) and 2015 American Housing Survey (Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston) to arrive at these statistics. It’s worth noting that Austin and San Antonio were not included in the 2015 survey.
