Being stuck in traffic on Preston Road may test your patience, but other than that, Plano was recently named one of the least stressed-out cities in America. WalletHub recently ranked the most- and least-stressed cities in the country and Plano came in No. 149 out of 150, meaning that residents have relatively few reasons to worry.

The WalletHub study compared cities on several key factors that can contribute to a highly stressful life. They looked at a total of 30 criteria in four categories related to stress: Financial, family, work, and health and safety. Plano had excellent ratings in all the categories except average hours worked. Life is good in Plano — but expect to spend more time than average at work.

The criteria that contributed to Plano’s excellent rankings included a low divorce rate, affordable housing, a low poverty rate, high job security, and a high median income.

The cities themselves were ranked without including surrounding areas. That’s significant in a city like Plano, which is itself surrounded by many suburbs with similarly high standards of living.

Many Texas cities also scored well on WalletHub’s rankings of least-stressed cities. Other cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth region that ranked relatively low on the stress scale include Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Garland, and Grand Prairie. The Dallas-Fort Worth area, including many suburbs, has an excellent employment outlook, affordable housing, and high median incomes.

Although working a lot of hours can be a source of stress, many people in the Dallas-Fort Worth region benefit from the high quality of living associated with more stable employment.
