The Houston- and Dallas-based builder Plantation Homes is making new homes more affordable for Houstonians. The Houston Business Journal reports the company just debuted some new home plans that start in the $160,000 range.

A model home for this new fleet of designs is going up in Northwest Park Colony.

These homes will be Plantation's least expensive homes in the Houston market, and "energy efficient infrastructure" will keep the homes sustainable. A little on the smaller side for Texas, the nine floor plans range in size from 1,425-2,592 square feet and will sit on 45-foot lots.

Plantation Homes' new, more affordable models are part of a trend of Houston-area home builders introducing smaller models amid the oil market slump. Houston Business Journal mentions Toll Brothers and Gracepoint Homes as builders offering smaller, less costly homes in the area.
