Lonely Planet asked a bunch of travel experts and readers to tell them about the U.S. neighborhoods that need to be on someone’s must-visit list. Point Loma in San Diego was among the select few neighborhoods that made the top 10.

Located 20 minutes from Downtown San Diego on the I-5, the curved peninsula that makes up Point Loma is mostly known for its yacht clubs, sports fishing centers, and naval base. Lonely Planet notes that by strolling or driving around, you’ll find “a mishmash of New England-style clapboard houses, tropical- themed hotels, and exquisite modern hilltop homes with panoramic views of the city and harbor below.”

But there’s also lots to see and do there. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay, the neighborhood offers lots of access to nature thanks to the Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, tide pools, and the Point Loma Ecological Reserve. The centerpiece of the region has to be Point Loma’s 144-acre national park, which features the Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma Lighthouse.
