In recent weeks, Poway’s City Councilmembers have met three times in closed sessions. The topic? Reviewing the interest of two major developers for lots located within their 17-acre Town Center, bordered by Bowron and Carriage roads and Wanesta and Civic Center drives.

The seven lots in question total 7.8 acres and the city requested specific qualifications for the land. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a request drafted by the city in July read, “The city desires that the site is developed into a neighborhood-serving mixed-use commercial and residential project with quality design and long-term operations to serve the Poway Road corridor and surrounding community.”

The two developers include a partnership between Sudberry Properties and Meridian Communities LLC, who is currently developing the Millenia residential community in Chula Vista, as well as a partnership between City Ventures LLC and William Hezmalhalch Architects, who recently opened the solar-powered townhome development Vista Mar, also in Chula Vista.

While City Councilmembers have a preferred developer, they wouldn’t disclose the name at this time as negotiations are in process. A proposed agreement with the winning group is expected by the end of the year.
