The Miami Herald recently ranked Miami-Dade cities from highest to lowest property tax rate and found that one of the county’s wealthiest cities boasts the lowest tax rates. Meanwhile, a city on the verge of insolvency is burdened with the highest taxes.
Opa-Locka, whose financial troubles have caused the state to intervene, has the highest tax rate of 2.6 percent. Conversely, the wealthy Key Biscayne offers the lowest tax rate of 1.65 percent. In that city, its properties’ combined market value of $10.9 billion likely help keep the tax rates low.
