KCET recently took the time to find, catalog, and highlight some of the best and most important street art around San Diego.

The culture of street art has been allowed to thrive in San Diego County, from Downtown San Diego to North County. Writerz Blok, founded in 1999, offered artists the chance to create their graffiti art pieces legally, Makers Quarter allows for artists to showcase their work in a high trafficked area of the city, and the MAAC Center hosts an annual graffiti event. Not only does San Diego County celebrate street art, different regions and neighborhoods give life to different styles of art: contemporary work can be found near Downtown and the East Village while strong Hispanic influences can be found in Barrio Logan and Logan Heights.

“San Diego is opening more to street art than ever,” artist Gloria Muriel told KCET. “Every wall is a different experience depending on where you are; there’s a different neighborhood with a special community and a unique history behind it.”

If you want to discover these street-level artwork for yourself, KCET noted the best locations and San Diego streets to go looking for it.
