Watauga is a tiny four-square-mile town in northeast Tarrant County. Yet for the second year in a row, the small suburb ranked tops on a list of hottest zip codes for millennial homebuyers. According to Builder Online, Watauga took top marks for having the right combination of factors that appeal to young homebuyers.

The study ranks zip codes across the country based on how long listings take to sell once on the market and how many times the properties are viewed. Both are indicators of the strength of a local housing market.

Watauga came in No. 1 for the second year running because it has relatively high median incomes of $66,041, especially when compared to the median home price of $160,441. Watauga is zoned to the highly-rated Keller Independent School District, making the town a natural draw for young families. The city also offers numerous shopping options, walking trails, and proximity to I-35, Loop 820, and major employers nearby like TD Ameritrade and at the Alliance corporate area.

However, the affordable median home price is not easy to find in reality. Locals say that competition for houses in the popular suburb is steep, and houses frequently sell for above their asking price. The homes tend to be smaller and may need some updating, but they’re still a bargain compared to many other suburbs in Fort Worth
