Toyota unveiled their new Plano headquarters recently in a gala event that featured aerial dancers and an exhibition of a single-person, three-wheel electric concept vehicle called the i-Road. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere, and Toyota North American CEO Jim Lentz gave presentations. Following the presentations, 350 people partied on a rooftop terrace overlooking the campus courtyard.

The 2-million-square-foot campus covers 100 acres, has WiFi access throughout, and boasts a long list of amenities including a climbing wall and onsite convenience store. The establishment of Toyota’s North American headquarters in Plano represents a big move for the company — and a big impact on Plano.

CEO Lentz told the Dallas Morning News that the transition has been in process since at least 2014, and employees are moving to the new campus in waves through the end of the year. The new campus buildings are designed to have more collaboration spaces, rather than traditional solitary desk setups.

In another move in North Texas, Toyota also recently announced a luxurious executive retreat and racetrack coming to Denton County.

In addition to bringing new jobs and related revenue to Plano, the company hopes to have a positive impact on the largely unseen problem of homelessness in the wealthy Collin County. Toyota recently announced a $1 million grant to help homeless women and children in that county. Toyota’s grant will work with the Collin County Mobility Collaborative and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.
