Two New Nine-Story Hotels Lined Up in Little Italy
WM Builders has submitted plans to Civic San Diego for two new hotel projects in the Littly Italy neighborhood, per San Diego Reader. Referred to as the Columbia & Hawthorn project and the State & Grape project, each would be nine-stories high. The State & Grape building calls for 56 hotel rooms, 92 apartments, and 64 parking spaces. The Columbia & Hawthorn building would stand at 83 feet tall and have 33 apartments, 22 hotel rooms, 101 parking spaces, and multiple restaurants.
Most of the structures on the property surrounded by Columbia, Grape, State and Hawthorn streets would be demolished. Both projects will require special development permits given how they break from normal development in the region, as well as being located in the Downtown Community Planning area.
Residents in the buildings will have access to all hotel amenities, including room service, concierge, and housekeeping. Due to their limited hotel room availability, it is likely the hotels will not go with national brands but instead local or smaller companies.
